About Dietitian Ellen Jannuzzi

    My passion is to promote health and wellness through nutrition education and dietary counseling. I find it fulfilling to teach youth how to love nutritious foods and keep a healthy and active body.

    I am a Dietitian in United Stated and in Brazil, and as a clinical dietitian, I ensure that patients in the acute care setting are obtaining the nutrients they need to improve their condition. My personal mission is to continue to grow as a professional and individual, as I bring happiness, enthusiasm, and health to my family, friends, and clients.

1.Can anyone follow a ketogenic diet?

No. Patients with kidney problems, and patients diagnosed with Diabetes type 1 should NOT follow a ketogenic Diet. The Ketogenic Diet is highly recommended for patients with metabolic diseases as fatty liver, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes type 2 and epilepsy.

2.I have a cholesterol problem. Will my cholesterol go up if I follow a ketogenic diet?

No. Once you start producing ketone bodies, your body starts to use your stored fat in order to produce energy, that is your fat is moving and being burned, so it helps your cholesterol to go down.

3.Can I follow the ketogenic diet for a long period of time?

Yes! When our body get keto adapted, you may eat more carbohydrates and it's totally fine to take it as a lifestyle.

4.I do intermittent fasting and I'm NOT losing weight. What else should I do?

Intermittent fasting has to be associated with a low carbohydrate diet, otherwise it won't have much effect. The goal is to fast, so your body starts producing ketone bodies and once you break your fast, you should choose food that will keep your body on this stage.

5.What to do after the 21 days?

We offer a maintenance whatsapp group to keep guiding our participants and we also offer individualized online and in person Nutrition Consultation.

6.My workouts are very intense, and I'm afraid I will lose muscle mass if I don't eat carbohydrates.

Even though the ketogenic diet is very low in carbohydrates, we still consume some throughout the day and we have specific timing to have them once you workout, so you will gain muscle mass. Also, protein isn't a good energy fuel for our body. Carbohydrates are it's first option, and fat it's second option.
